Opportunities

1. LEAP Programme  Please contact them directly if you are interested. CONTACT is Miles Mount, Chairman, Leeds Enterprise Advisory Programme, Mobile 07802-30705, Email: leapinformation@yahoo.co.uk

 OUTLINE

13 schools and nearly 40 teams are participating across West Yorkshire.  Each school has a staff member who co-ordinates all the teams in that school.  The commitment is to attend the business meeting every week in term time (usually 1.5 hour meeting straight after school) and as much support as is needed during the week.  This might involve talking to suppliers on the pupils' behalf, liaising with the LEAP organisation itself and encouraging, reminding and advising the pupils.

The business mentor is an adviser not the MD of the company.  The teams have to take decisions and take responsibility. Team members have roles such as Sales Director, Financial Director etc and have to decide on their product or service, pricing, marketing and manage the finances of the "company" to maximise profit. The business mentors are given a pack of notes and have the chance to learn more about their role at two seminars during the year organised by Miles.

Also, optional to attend are the weekend trade fairs and presentations to the judges scheduled during the year.

3.Mentor required MANCHESTER (if anyone knows anyone or can help)

CONTACT Leanne Creighton 01924 789681.

"I’d like a mentor who has been successful in the media sector on a national / international scale who ideally operates out of Manchester or nearby. The aim of mentor support for me would be to help open my mind to opportunities that are difficult to see unless you have the experience to know they are there. I’ve made fast progress already by integrating myself well into the company I work for (MediaVest), but seek the opportunity to push barriers outside MediaVest and become more successful because of it."
