Tell us about your business or position:
I launched On The Threshold in July 2009. Like any creation it has taken time to evolve and mature and for me to fully understand the ethos behind it but now i'm there. I help women fulfil their potential by overcoming barriers that life puts in the way: lack of confidence, poor work/life balance, stress, illness, divorce , redundancy, the list is endless!
I'm a professional fully trained fully accredited life coach. I love coaching because I know the difference it has made in my life and I see the difference it makes to my clients' lives. Coaching is not about fixing something in people, it's about buidling on what's there.
My personal journey has shown me what's possible and my aim is to inspire other women to take stock of their own lives and see what would make it more fulfilling and support them on their journey.
Why women? Because I strongly believe a greater balance of female energy would make the world a better place. But also in my previous life as a health visitor I worked with women and have seen what barriers we do have to overcome. I am particualrly passionate about helping women who have or have had postnatal depression and am a trustee for the Joanne Bingley Memorial Foundation based in Huddersfield set up to raise awarenss and change practice in that field.
This year my goals are to have my book published and to launch an online coaching programme.
What achievement in your career/business are you most proud of?
Having the courage to leave a safe and secure job to discover my passion and to do whatever it takes to make it successful.
Three top networking tips:
- Never forget it's about building relationships, not selling
- Everyone finds it difficult at first so just go for it - everyone's there for the same reason, to meet people, to build rleaitonships and ultimately business will follow
- Women are great networkers, enjoy it
Three top business/career progression tips:
- Find the work you love and go for it. You will rarely get stressed and you will be happy and fulfilled
- If running your own business find people to help you with the stuff you're not good at .. marketing, brand building, admin, accounting etc. Then you will have more time to do what you're brilliant at
- Find the confidence to sell .. it will make all the difference!
Favourite book/film/piece of music
I absolutely love classical music and my favourites vary. But my long term favourite is Mahler's Symphony of a Thousand. There's passion, pain and triumph in one enormous piece of music and it's been my friend through my pain and my triumphs!
Which person, living or dead, would you most like to meet and why?
Ooh difficult question...I think Nelson Mandela because he has triumphed over so much adversity and made so much difference to so many people. I'll never forget him being released from prison. it was around my 40th birthday. He will leave a legacy that we can all aspire to.
What important lesson has life taught you?
That if we have the courage to discover and follow our passion and never stop learning we can have an amazing life.
Your thoughts on the future of the economy
I avoid the negativity of the news atc and I avoid being with negative people. I believe that the answer to our future lies in small businesses and entrepreneurship because that's where positivity, passion and commitment lies.
What benefit have you or your business gained by being a Forward Ladies member?
I have met some wonderful women who have become my friends and colleagues. I've loved the buzz of meetings and the feedback I receive about my work which gives me greater confidence to go on and achieve. I hope that in the future there will be opportunities to speak at events and grow my business further
