What achievement in your career/business are you most proud of?
I am proud of getting onto the London Procurement Programme. ( LPP ) for the NHS. This tender spans across 73 Trusts and we were only one of two companies that specialise in Conflict Resolution. The selection process took just over a year to go through. My persitance and seeking out tender "best practice" was successful. It shows how valuable building a strong network can be!
Three top networking tips:
- Aways have a bank of stories to talk about which demonstrate how your business has added value - if needed don't be shy to rehearse these with family and friends
- Listen to people and allow them to talk to you first - its amazing what opportunities appear when you show mutual respect and allow people to talk about their business vs always pushing yours!
- Always carry business cards - you never know who you might sit next to on that next train. (invest in a card scaner for £100 and build up a database from your cards)
Three top business/career progression tips:
- Become an expert, be the go to person in your field.
- Add Value, deliver more than you promise - always focus on teh WIIFT (Whats in it for THEM)
- Be consitent in your delivery - always, always get back to people and do what you say you are going to do!
Favourite book/film/piece of music
Book - Da Vinci Code. ( I could not put this down.)
Film - Shawshank Redemption.( just a master piece )
Music - I can see clearly now the rain has gone - always puts me in a better mood.
Which person, living or dead, would you most like to meet and why?
Nelson Mandela - lessons for all of us in overcoming immense resitance to his cause and bringing peace and equality that has changed both the social, political and economic landscape for ever.
What important lesson has life taught you?
Everything has a consequence, be careful of what you wish for.
Your thoughts on the future of the economy
The economy will recover and we will be stronger for it - however there is a rocky road ahead still. The companies that seek continous improvement in every area will come out of this fighting fit and will be better placed than ever to meet the needs of their customers.
What benefit have you or your business gained by being a Forward Ladies member?
Although for me it is early days as a new member I have been really inspired by the people I have met and the 2 great events I have attended. Cherie Blair was Inspirational, funny and a real driving force for anyone in business. I have learned alot from listening to both CHerie and Hansa decsribe how they have suceeded in spite of the challenges they faced.
The food at Hansas was great and I would highly recommend the restaurant and their Charitable work.
