Tell us about your business or position:
I am Business Tourism Executive at Visit Manchester, the Tourist Board for Manchester, in the Conference Team. I research international conferences with the potential to be hosted by the city.
We locate venues for conferences, book accommodation, organise site visits and create bid documents. I also liaise with local academics to encourage them to work with us to bid for conferences. I administer civic funding on behalf of the City. I also mentor students and help them with their careers.
What achievement in your career/business are you most proud of?
Bringing conferences worth millions in economic benefit to the city, thus ensuring continued and growing prosperity for Manchester's hotels, restaurants, businesses and citizens. Also obtaining my PhD.

Three top business/career progression tips:

Music: Vivaldi's Gloria
Which person, living or dead, would you most like to meet and why?
Emmeline Pankhurst. She campaigned for votes for women for over 20 years and never gave up. Our lives would have been so different without her and her fellow Suffragettes.
What important lesson has life taught you?
- Happiness lies in the everyday, not in the big events
- Stop and smell the roses
- Seize every day!
Your thoughts on the future of the economy
Having lived through 3 recessions I am less pessimistic than many. This one is worse because the recession in the west is interlinked, and the previous years were a false boom based on excessive borrowing. I believe it will turn round but it will take longer.
What benefit have you or your business gained by being a Forward Ladies member?
My outlook changed after the very first meeting! I learnt that I should start a business of my own now and not wait any longer. I am already using the services of a member whom I met at that first meeting.
