Growing up, food was a necessity in our house rather than a pleasure. I was 15 before I ate mushrooms, or saw the likes of duck, rare beef and fresh vegetables. After taking my A-Levels and not making a clear career choice and already with a part-time waitressing job, I fell into restaurants.
I worked my way up through the ranks over the next 4 years, to become a restaurant manager. It was during this time that I fell in love with the industry, the people and most importantly for me, the food... This realisation, combined with a desire for a further challenge, prompted me to leave my management position and take a commis chef role within a well-established Yorkshire restaurant.
After just 2 years I was head chef. It's amazing how passion, enthusiasm and hard graft gets you to where you want to be. I'm not saying it was easy, but now, after only 4 years of professional cooking, a TV debut on the most popular cooking show in the UK and a recent move into a new restaurant, my enthusiasm and passion for cooking is showing no signs of diminishing. In fact it has driven me to embark on my latest venture and realise an ambition to work for myself, in creating a bespoke catering service that brings to you, not only great food, but a unique dining experience in the comfort of your own home.
