Special workshops for those affected by redundancy
24/06/2009
People who have been hit by redundancy are being offered free advice and expertise from Leeds-based Forward Ladies, one of the north’s fastest growing women’s networking and business support organisations.
A full day of workshops is being held on Tuesday 7th July at The Met Hotel, Leeds, and is open to men and women who have been made redundant, are facing redundancy - or who are currently unemployed.
The sessions cover topics such as benefits and financial support, how to approach self-employment, honing interview skills and how to deal with the personal impact of redundancy. The day begins at 9am and closes at 3.30pm with lunch provided.
The workshops will be hosted by representatives from the Department of Work & Pensions, Business Link, career development specialists Saxton Partners and consulting firm Right Management.
Forward Ladies founder Etta Cohen said: “Being made redundant can make many people feel lonely and lacking in confidence and recession is affecting men and women alike - regardless of industry or age.
“The workshops will offer access to information in a productive and positive environment. Through being with others in similar situations the sessions will provide the camaraderie that can be missed when out of work.”
Alex McWhirter, Assistant Director of Business at Yorkshire Forward adds; “Recession and redundancy are tough challenges but it is important that people remember that there is support available to those who need it.
“This recession will end, and so the best thing to do is make the most of every opportunity to equip yourself for recovery and to come out stronger on the other side”
Forward Ladies is supported by Yorkshire Forward as part of its commitment to encourage female entrepreneurship in the region. Launched by Etta Cohen in 2000, it now boasts a 3,500 strong membership across the North.
