Women in Business Shortlist Announced

From hats to hydro-electricity, and freight to finance, the first Forward Ladies Women in Business Awards shortlist has been announced.

Following an overwhelming response to these first awards, the final will take place at The Met on 24 September, where the 23 finalists in nine categories will hear if they are the 2010 Forward Ladies Businesswoman of the year 2010.

Congratulations and good luck to all the finalists!

The nine award categories are:
Innovative Business Woman of the Year, sponsored by O2, Manufacturing Business Woman of the Year, sponsored by Yorkshire and Humber Manufacturing Advisory Service , International Business Woman of the year, sponsored by HSBC, Young Business Woman of the Year sponsored by Business Link – who must be a businesswoman under the age of 28, Best Technology Utilisation, sponsored by Science City, York, Start-up Business Woman of the Year – the business must be less than two years old sponsored by the Yorkshire Post, Corporate Leader of the Year, sponsored by Bibi’s Italianissimo, Not for Profit Organisation of the Year sponsored by East Coast Rail, Home-based Business Woman sponsored by Hobbs, and the overall winner, the Business Woman of the Year. The event is sponsored by The Met, Leeds.

  • Helen Darlington is MD of the INK digital Agency in Halifax
  • Ann Harding is a founding director of the industrial provident society, Settle Hydro
  • Carolyn Pearson from Leeds, took redundancy to set up maiden-voyage.com

Manufacturing business woman sponsored by the Manufacturing Advisory Service

  • Lesley Buxton is a director of Yorvale
  • Karen Bruce is a director of Kirby Joinery near Boroughbridge
  • Sue Taylor, Managing Director of Craftwork Cards based in Leeds

International businesswoman sponsored by HSBC

  • Joy Devine runs millinery business Simply Devine, in Tadcaster
  • Carolyn Pearson is also shortlisted in the International category
  • Stephanie Thomson is Global Production Director for Authentix

  • Gemma Roberts is an insolvency practitioner at Wilson Field Limited in Sheffield

  • Jill Thomas runs a bespoke financial planning to individuals, SMEs and inheritors of wealth
