10 Years From Now, Where Would You Be?

10 Years From Now, Where Would You Be?

“A Year from Now You May Wish You Had Started Today.”

This quote, by Karen Lamb, might inspire you to get going and start working on those goals that you’ve been putting off for “someday.” “A year from now you may wish you had started today” simply says: The time is now.

I’ve been looking at the #10yearchallenge pictures with amusement. Such transformations! For me, my story is very different because my transformation and journey over the past 10 years, from 2008 to 2018 has been internal. Mostly private. And what a transformation it has been!

There are no pictures of me from 2008. But one thing is for sure – I did not like myself very much then and did not want to see images of any form of myself. I was so self-conscious and lacking in confidence that I shied away from any publicity. I was in a job, pursuing a career that I was good at but did not love and felt trapped at times.

It’s amazing what 10 years can do when you allow yourself to embrace all of you, and commit to living a more courageous life rather than just existing.

The blank page here represents me 10 years ago. Darkness and loss of hope. Filled with frustrations. The picture of me on the right was taken at the last year’s FL National Awards & Summit.

Now, I see the world as full of opportunities and I feel I can create my own future and successes. I don’t need to wait on anyone for permission or opportunity. I’ve two businesses and feel able to care for my two little babies as I want with a few compromises here and there. I find it incredible that I’m now invited to speak to hundreds of people and to contribute my advice and opinions to global businesses. I have been reluctantly thrust into the public light, with cameras everywhere, and seen as a role model and a leader.

I’m still working on embracing that fully. From a shy, socially awkward girl who I was before, to where I am now – is quite a transformation, and I can’t wait to see what the next 10 years hold in store for me. So I want to encourage anyone looking at those pictures thinking it could never be me. Trust me, it can! Where ever you are in your journey, have faith and hope in your progress. It might not be immediately visible to you and others but you’ll surely step out of the darkness into great blinding light when the time is right. Just take it one step at a time and one day at a time.
