Now that we are coming out of a pandemic, and the world has completely changed, our brand is going to make it possible for you to bounce back and seek new opportunities much quicker.

Your brand is what you are known for, and it is what people say about you when you are not in the room. It’s the comments and recommendations that people make about you. It’s the reason why people invite you into a room to sit at a table if you are not already present in that room.

Five questions to ask before you set out to brand yourself
Building your personal brand is something that can be done over a period of time. However, before you ever think of building your brand, there are some important questions you need to ask yourself first. The answers to these questions will guide you in your personal branding journey. We have put together five (5) important questions you need to ask yourself before you set out to brand yourself:
1. What self-audits have you done?
2. What are your strengths?
3. What value do you bring to the table?
4. What uniqueness do you bring?
5. How competent are you?
Misconceptions around corporate personal branding
One misconception around branding is that if you work for a large organisation, or you work for a company that has a strong brand, then you can just leverage their brand. In some cases, yes, you can leverage that brand in a very short space of time, but you cannot leverage that brand forever.
So, for instance, in my case, I used to work for one of the biggest professional services firms, and when I worked for them, and I went into any company, people wanted me there because I came from this company. I was warmly welcomed and received and I was given information that I needed on time. Immediately, I did not have the brand of the large company behind me, I became an unknown entity because I had not invested in my brand. At that time, I had not invested in my network and my expertise, I had not invested in any of that. so immediately the company’s brand was taken away, I was just Griselda Togobo that nobody knew or wanted to work with.
So, even if you work in the most amazing brand, it is still worth investing in your personal brand because that gives you the opportunity to take the networks and the knowledge you have been able to build from one place to the next place.
Reinventing yourself through personal branding
Another question is “How do you reinvent your brand when you have been in an organisation or business for a long time?” You need to take a step back from what you are doing, you probably need a holiday to take a break from the routine so you can get inspired and get new connections.
Next, you then want to consider refreshing your presence. Specifically, your online presence. LinkedIn is a powerful tool for building your personal brand both in the corporate and business space.
